Frances Lee McCain began her 34-year career in Play It Again, Sam on Broadway and originated the off-Broadway role of Carol in Lemon Sky.

She has worked in many regional theaters, including American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) where she recently played Halie in Sam Shepard’s Buried Child, and the Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, in plays ranging from Caesar and Cleopatra (Cleopatra) and A Street Car Named Desire (Stella) to Dinner at Eight (Millicent) and Blithe Spirit (Madame Arcati).

She has made nearly 100 television and film appearances, including Gremlins, Footloose, Back to the Future, and Patch Adams.

She has also been a member of the acting company and core faculty at A.C.T., taught at CSU Fresno, and guest lectured at Ripon College (where she received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in 1986).

Ms. McCain studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, holds a master’s degree in psychology/drama therapy, and teaches privately in the Bay Area. She most recently created roles in Julie Marie Myatt's Sex Habits of American Women (winning a Goodman Choice Award) and Anne Galjour's Okra, and is an associate artist with the Z Space Studio.
